“The problem with Ferguson, Cleveland, New York City and mostly every community where there are people of color is the lack of education of the criminal justice system. Our people don’t learn about the very system that incarcerates them until sadly they are in it. If we as Americans are to be successful at winning against an unfair system, we must learn about it. If it is true that OUR people, the American people, fail for the lack of knowledge, we here at MABMA intend on bridging that gap.” – Mike Brown, MA - President/CEO MABMA Enterprises, LLC

In light of the recent events that have happened in Ferguson, MO and other situations across the country, the dynamic often undiscovered and unmentioned is that criminal law is not taught in the public schools to our juveniles, who eventually become adults. Criminal law is the ONE subject that effects and incarcerates us the most that we know the least about. It is further the case that the public, more so the communities of color, aren't also taught anything about the criminal justice system until we are either hired and working in the criminal justice system, in jail charged with or convicted of a crime, or in college.

People of color are incarcerated at an alarming rate and are disproportionately represented in large numbers in the prison population, but are not represented in great numbers as practitioners in the criminal justice system. FACT IS, WE CAN'T BEAT A SYSTEM WE THINK IS UNFAIR UNTIL WE LEARN ABOUT THE VERY SYSTEM THAT INCARCERATES US. It is time that we change the course of ignorance in our community, and we here at MABMA intend to change that dynamic.
